Sibella is a writer, presenter, interior designer and style forecaster. Sibella's style invokes strong emotional responses by providing a highly original take on a space. Her knowledge of colour and form lends itself perfectly to both the large scale as well as the smallest and most intimate spaces, bringing an element of originality and surprise.
A ‘bowerbird’ and collector, Sibella’s innovative style was honed by her 10 years living in New York, and she still collaborates with international brands. Constantly travelling on buying trips for clients, she uses these travels as inspiration for her interiors and product ranges.
She is the award-winning author of books, ‘Etcetera etc: creating beautiful interiors with the things you love’, ‘The Stylist’s Guide to NYC’, ‘Nomad: bringing your travels home’ and ‘Bowerbird: creating beautiful interiors with the things you collect’. ‘Gypsy’ the companion to Nomad was launched in 2013. All have now been translated into several languages and are amongst the best selling home decoration books in Australian publishing history. The series of Stylist Guides to other gloabal cities is in development.
As a product designer, she has a 110-colour paint range, as well as soap, and hardware ranges. This year she will be launching clothing, scent and bed linen ranges with US based company Anthropologie.
Sibella is also a formidable creative director: from vision & concept through to direction & creation. Her most recent spaces for private clients & the Merivale Group include: Palings, Mr Wong, Palmer & Co, El Loco, 30 Knots, Upstairs at The Beresford, MsG’s, York 75, Bistrode CBD, Private Dining at Ivy and even an island!
Sibella spends her time exploring for inspiration across the globe in backstreets, markets & fairs, discovering new artists, designers & products for her shop and commercial designs. Her wanderlust has seen her accumulate over twenty years of global inspiration from trips frequenting South East Asia, India, Europe, the Middle East, the States, Central America and Australia (and that’s just in the last year).
In New York, Sibella was in demand for styling and concepting for the likes of retail giants Bergdorf Goodman, Jo Malone, Donna Karan, Gourmet, Bloomingdale’s, West Elm, Saks Fifth Avenue, Target and Domino as well as publications Gourmet, Marie Claire and Vogue Living. She continues to collaborate on projects in the States and looks forward to opening a studio in New York selling her own wholesale product ranges.
Today Sibella collaborates commercially and creatively with One Kings Lane, Rawson Homes, QVB, Anthropologie, Merivale and Jo Malone.
Sibella has written extensively for publications such as Country Style, Grazia, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Living as a feature writer & contributing editor. She has been involved with television shows: as a judge on Channel 9′s ‘HomeMADE’ and has been featured on Keith Johnson’s ‘Man Shops Globe’. Sibella is frequently requested to participate in cultural events all over the world as a speaker and curator.
She also has a beautiful trove of treasures in a St Peters warehouse props salon “The Society inc.”, where she can be found creating new and fascinating spaces with her self-designed haberdashery & hardware range, along with her latest international finds.
A history degree gives Sibella a unique foundation on which to combine research, travel & inspiration into projects that are unique, magical & unexampled. She claims to be part Gypsy, part Pirate; a theory yet to be disproved.
